The Potomac river basin, on the east coast of the United States, was, historically, the setting for many Westerners' first contacts with Native Americans. Evidence of human habitat in the area can be dated as early as 8,000 B.C.
"Potomac" (also spelled, in the past, Patomack, Patowmack, Petomeack) is a Algonkian Indian word meaning “meeting place.” The Potomac Guitar Trio lives in the Washington, D.C. metro area, located on the Potomac River. Washington is, today, still an important global "meeting place."
Thus, our name invokes, for us, both the location where we work and play plus a rich cultural history central to the nation we live in. As guitarists from this particular area of the world, we meet regularly and play music. Now we offer the Internet community a touch of our lives through our recordings, offered in the spirit of meeting and sharing. |
